The Global Launch Event will bring together different actors, to engage them in the implementation of the UNDFF and to reaffirm political commitment to review, improve and develop public policies and an enabling policy and legal environment to support family farmers.
On May 27, the meeting of Family Farming Organizations and their constituencies will give an opportunity to have an open dialogue about the commonalities, complementarities and differences in the different regions and on the diverse types of rural livelihoods, as well as to discuss the importance of strengthening FF organizations, with a particular focus on improving women and youth potential.
On May 28, some priority components of the enabling environment to support FF will be addressed. In the morning a plenary session will explore some key elements to set an enabling policy environment to overcome barriers and enhance policy support, thanks to a common reflection based on the presentation of concrete experiences and processes. In the afternoon, thematic regional discussions will focus on the main challenges faced at the regional level in view of setting up an enabling policy environment which is conducive for family farmers.
The official Launch Event will take place on May 29, 2019, with a High-Level Opening Session, then followed by a Ministerial segment on promoting family farming to achieve the SDGs. The afternoon will host a high-level session focused on the role that family farmers can play as active agents of healthy and sustainable food systems, and the different policy dimensions to be addressed in order to unleash their transformative potential toward this transformation.
